ABOUT HOSPITAL

It was like a dream come true for citizens of Eastern part of Uttar Pradesh state, that is Purvanchal, of eastern UP, western Bihar and adjacent country Nepal.

When the first seed of inception of this medical college was sown in November of 1969. Its foundation stone was laid by the then Chief Minister of Uttar Pradesh Late Shri Chandra Bhanu Gupta. It was named after a devoted freedom fighter Baba Raghav Das who was a prominent Sarvoday Leader of this area and close associate of Mahatma Gandhi and Acharya Vinoba Bhave.

Initially the teaching started in government polytechnic and later shifted to the college and hospital buildings under the dynamic leadership of Prof P.L. Shukla as first Principal of this college. First batch of MBBS students was admitted on 7th August 1972. Since then this college has grown and now runs post graduate courses in various specialties.

A 950 + 100 bedded Nehru Hospital situated in BRD Medical College Campus is attached to the college for clinical teaching and training to the under graduate and post graduate students. This hospital is a tertiary care centre catering to a population of about 5 crores. BRD medical college includes Administrative Block, Central Library, Examination Hall, Auditorium, Lecture Theatres and various departments of non clinical and para clinical subjects of medical education, etc. It forms the base for medical career of future doctors and provides research backup in basic medical sciences.

This hospital is the backbone of health care in the Eastern districts of UP, adjacent districts of Bihar and neighbouring country Nepal. This is a 1050 bedded multi/super specialist hospital. A modern well equipped New Emergency Complex/ Trauma Centre is working in full swing. A separate Paediatric ward/block is also a state of the art treatment centre. The hospital provides various specialist & super-specialist facilities including 24 X 7 – X ray, Central Pathology, Blood Bank, Emergency and Trauma services. Super specialist services like Neurology, Neurosurgery, Cardiology, Burn & Plastic surgery are also being provided with air conditioned burn wards. Blood components are also available in the Blood Bank. The hospital also provides facilities of HCTC(HIV/AIDS), PPTCT, ART centre for diagnosis and treatment of HIV patients, DOT’s Microscopy centre and fully automatated modern MDR TB diagnostic laboratory for diagnosis and treatment of Tuberculosis patients. Facilities of Imaging Diagnostic services for advanced investigations like MRI, CT Scan, Color Doppler, etc are also available within the hospital.

This hospital is playing a pivotal role in the treatment of AES/JE patients in the surrounding areas. Usually in the post Monsoon period for 2-3 months the bed occupancy goes up-to 125-135% & the Doctors, Nurses, Para Medics and everyone else also work Day-in and Day-out for the service of the suffering patients.

The hospital provides free of cost treatment facilities to the BPL card holder poor patients, destitute patients and any other economically weak patients. There is also provision of treatment/funding through ‘Mukhyamantri Arogya Nidhi’ after proper procedural work. ‘Janani Suraksha Yojna’ is also being run successfully in this hospital with proper financial aid being distributed to the patient & concerned ASHA. The hospital is also registered under the ‘Ayushman Bharat’ scheme of the Government of India and proving free of cost treatment to the eligible beneficiaries as per the guidelines of the government. Immunization of the new born and other children is being carried out in the PP Centre where routine immunization (as per National schedule) is being carried out free of cost to every child attending the centre. JE vaccination is also being done in the PP centre.

Free of cost Milk (Parag) or Food (as per the recommendation of the treating Doctor) is being provided to the patients from the hospital kitchen. There is a fully modern and mechanized laundry functional in the hospital. The hospital also has a modern central sterilization (CSSD) plant which caters to the hospital needs.
