Department History
Department of Radiation Oncology came in existence in B.R.D Medical College Gorakhpur on 25 Nov 2008. Department was established to provide quality oriented state- of-art treatment to cancer patients with advance radiotherapy as well as chemotherapy. There was immense need of radiation oncology department since such facility was not in existence in eastern part of Uttar Pradesh. Presently nearly 60% of the patients registered in this department are referrals from various districts of eastern part of Utter Pradesh. EBRT & HDR Brachytherapy started on 27 July 2016.

- Public awareness programs: about cancer prevention and early detection
- Periodically Organize CME: on latest issues of cancer management.
- Research on cancer epidemiology, radiotherapy and chemotherapy.

- Daily OPD for cancer patients.
- Day Care Chemotherapy- department have 15 Beds for Daily Chemotherapy including male and female ward.
- IPD -15 beds in Nehru hospital are reserved for cancer patients.

- Telecobalt radiotherapy with Bhabatron-2
- HDR Brachytherapy by ECKRECT ZIEGLER BEBIG Germany made Machine
- Free of cost radiotherapy to BPL and government approved poor patient through state government scheme.

- CME ON MANAGEMENT OF TRIPLE NEGATIVE BREAST CANCER WITH NACT APPROACH BY DR. MUZZAMIL SHEIKH FROM HINDUJA HOSPITAL MUMBAI happened on 5th Sep 2017 in the Department of Radiotherapy at BRD Medical College.
- World No Tobacco Day was organised by Department on 31st May 2017
- CME on Lung cancer in August 2014
- CME on Prostate cancer and Urinary bladder cancer in December 2013.
- Cancer patient data analysis with site wise presentation of cancer in Western Uttar Pradesh in September 2013.
- CME of surgical aspects of cancer management in December 2012.
- CME on role of Targeted therapy in cancer management in September 2012.
- Patient awareness program for prevention and early detection of cancer in December 2011.
- Cancer awareness program and appreciation to cured cancer patients in August 2011.
- Camp for medical check-up and investigation and free drug distribution of drugs to cancer patients in January 2010.

- Construction of New Rainbasara Exclusively for Cancer patients undergoing Radiotherapy.
